We are based in Rutherfordton, NC. We rescue unwanted litters of pups, adults and seniors directly from the general public when they seek our help, as an alternative to our local ‘kill’ shelter. Howlin4Spirit has rescued over 9,500 dogs and puppies(2 cats and 1 pony) since January 2, 2004. We get all our rescued K9’s healthy(pups are quarantined for 4>5 weeks, receive at least 3 puppy boosters and 2>3 de-wormings before they are allowed to leave our care), spay/neutered, micro-chipped and transported to their pre-approved adopters every Saturday via LIFESAVERS & SAVE THEM ALL Rescued Pet Transport services, to all points along the eastern seaboard from western NC to Long Island, ManchesterNH, BurlingtonVT and Albany & RochesterNY.
About Rutherford County, NC
Rutherford County NC has NO shelter for adoptable animals. The only available space for strays & owner-released pets is a ‘kill’ Animal Control facility, run by the county Sheriff’s Dept and county Solid Waste Management Dept, and inmates from the local jail, which is located next to the county landfill where all potential adopters must drive down an unsavory road lined with drug dealers. Strays are given 72 hours for their owners to claim them. Owner-relinquished pets are given NO time IF space is limited, which is almost always the case, with only 18 runs at this county’s only facility(2 are for cats). Their only hope is the occasional adopter, or rescue groups willing to make space for them.
Rutherford County NC was a thriving community of textile industries, until NAFTA helped move 90% of our factories to other countries. H4S a non-profit organization made up of hardworking volunteers working together for the good of saving homeless adoptable animals in our area, as fast as we can. We offer low-cost spay-neuters for those who qualify & for strays who will have an opportunity for a good home, we can help defray costs, whenever possible. We also have plans for an educational program where we will supply any teacher willing to teach the importance of compassion towards their furry friends, spay/neutering, the proper care of pets, and what they need to do if they see any neglect or abuse.
