Adoption Application & adoption process

Thank you for considering adopting a rescued companion animal.

If you have had one of our current pup’s pictures/bio pull at your heartstrings, we suggest that you complete our application ahead of our scheduled transport so that we may have ample time to review your application.

All our rescued pups are in foster care, in Rutherfordton, NC (at Howlin4Spirit Companion Animal Rescue and Senior Beagle Sanctuary) and will be transported to their pre-approved families via 2 licensed and bonded Rescued Pet Transport Services:                                                ‘LIFESAVERS'(>VA, MD, DE, NJTnpk, Albany & RyeNY, CT, MA, ManchesterNH via I-95, BurlingtonVT and back S via I-81=PA & westernVA)=their transport fee is: $125 as far as Vince Lombardi Service Plaza, NJTnpk, mm115 and $140 to all other relay points mentioned above.      &, ‘SAVE THEM ALL'(Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and AlbanyNY=their transport fee is $140), on their next available transport (if your application is approved and adoption fee is received by H4S by 6pm/Tuesday, we can usually have your new family member ‘home’ on the following Saturday).

All adoption donations include;

  • spay or neuter
  • micro-chip
  • 3>4 Parvo-Distemper boosters
  • Leptospirosis(all hunting & guardian breeds)
  • Bordatella vaccine
  • 1 yr Rabies vaccination – must be 3 months or older.

Adults and pups 3 months or older are current on monthly flea/tick & heart worm prevention and parasite-free. Most walk well on-leash and are crate-trained, and ALL get along well with other dogs(unless specified).

Each adopted pup will come with;

* current health certificate – issued within 5 days prior to transport

* all medical paperwork from day #1 with Howlin4Spirit, including vet’s surgery notes.

* a new Martingale collar and matching 6′ leash

* beef knee cap bone & Nylabone OR Kong chew toy plus, 1 ‘RESCUED DOGS ROCK’  car magnet & 2 ‘pet alert’ wallet cards

training booklet: ‘SUPER PUPPY-How to Train the Best Dog You’ll Ever Have’

All potential adopters are required to be 25 years or older & &, MUST PROVIDE EMAIL ADDRESSES FOR 3 PERSONAL REFERENCES(not tele#s), otherwise, we will consider your application INCOMPLETE.

Where there is a hound or guardian breed being considered for adoption, and in homes where children reside or will be visiting, a secured fenced-in yard is required.                        **Some situations will be considered, depending on these factors……past experience with the same breed and/or electric fences for NON-SCENT HOUNDS! SCENT HOUNDS WILL GO THROUGH AN ELECTRIC FENCE to chase rabbits, squirrels, critters & then be afraid to come back inside! HOWEVER, A SOLID FENCE TAKES PRIORITY over an inexperienced owner with an electric fencing.

You will need to copy and paste the application provided below in to a new email, answer each question completely and send to:, at your very earliest convenience. The sooner the better for your chances of being approved for your 1st pup of choice ahead of other interested applicants.

PLEASE, check to be sure that your COMPLETE answer to EACH question appears on the application BEFORE sending it to us, as we need your COMPLETED answers to be able to properly match you, your family, habits and environment with the RIGHT-matching pup. IF your answers run off of the page, you will need to resend the CORRECTED/COMPLETED version again, and this could jeopardize your chances of being matched with your 1st choice of pups. BEST to get it right the 1st time!

Application Process

Upon receipt of your application, we will acknowledge your application in an email and immediately send out a questionnaire to your 3 personal references.

Please, contact and ask your personal references to reply at their most earliest convenience, to help us process your application in a timely manner, & to help your chances of getting approved for the pup you want most.

Also, please call and give your vet’s office permission to release your information to us. We will be contacting them within 1 business day.

As soon as we have heard back from your 3 personal references and spoken with your vet’s office(and property mgr, if you should rent), we will be back in contact with you to discuss and solidify the adoption.

Upon approval of this adoption, & to hold the dog/pup of your choice, we require the entire adoption fee to be sent to our secure acct at:

Upon receipt of the adoption fee, we will respond by sending you the adoption contract and all pertinent information you will need to be ready for your pup’s arrival. We will reserve a cozy spot for your new family member on either ‘LIFESAVERS’, ‘HAPPY DOGS’ OR ‘SAVE THEM ALL’ (depending on your location) Rescued Pet Transport’s next available transport(SATURDAY DELIVERIES ONLY!), just as soon as your pup has recovered from it’s spay or neuter surgery, and will send you a copy of our reservation request to them(so you know what transport will be in charge of delivering your new best fur-kid to you, and to whom you will need to PayPal the transport fee to). fyi: Reservations for transport will be made THE WEEK OF EXPECTED DELIVERY…any earlier will just confuse the transport services, and info might get lost, so they request that we wait until Tuesday of the week your pup needs a ride ‘home’.

If, for any reason, the adoption does not work out, our contract includes a clause which requires that the dog must be returned to H4S.

OR, IF you feel that you have found a better match for the dog, H4S MUST approve the transfer of the dog BEFORE the dog is allowed to be re-homed.

This way, the future of the adopted dog/pup, and yours, will never be in question.
